It’s often tempting when trees become unruly to just get out the ladder and chop away at them. However, apart from the fact that you could actually cause the tree damage through improper pruning, this can be highly dangerous. Teetering on a ladder whilst using power tools is always a recipe for disaster.

Pruning is probably the most common procedure carried out by tree surgeons. Trees should be regularly pruned in order to maintain their safety and aesthetics. However, in order to cut the tree back in a way which doesn’t cause it permanent damage, there should be an understanding of how and when to prune the tree.

On 25th October, ash dieback was confirmed as present in ash trees in woodlands within Norfolk and Suffolk. The disease arrived from Europe where it has devastated 90% of the species in Denmark and now experts say it poses a real danger to the UK’s 80 million ash tree population. Just this week cases of the deadly disease have been confirmed in Essex and Kent.
