You may have heard recently about British ash trees having been under attack from a fungal disease that causes black spots, cankers on bark and dying branches (ash die back), but did you know that the traditional Christmas tree is also under threat of an aggressive tree condition? ‘Current season needle necrosis’ is killing many of the popular Nordmann fir trees and making many more un-saleable.

Ash Dieback Crisis Hits Essex

On 25th October, ash dieback was confirmed as present in ash trees in woodlands within Norfolk and Suffolk. The disease arrived from Europe where it has devastated 90% of the species in Denmark and now experts say it poses a real danger to the UK’s 80 million ash tree population. Just this week cases of the deadly disease have been confirmed in Essex and Kent.

T.H. Tree Services has recently become local authority and trading standards approved. This is a great achievement, as it means that we are now approved tree surgeon contractors for the local authority of Essex, and smaller parish councils within the county, and are also part of the Trading Standards ‘Buy with Confidence’ scheme.
